Our Cattery
Cattery Ailuro's is the cattery of Linda (crazy cat lady) and Kim (wife and mother of 4 kids). We are mother and daughter and our love for the British cat started a long time ago when we bought the blue British Shorthair Asha of the Paragon when we were looking for an affectionate breed that is also kind to children. Asha has reached the age of 18 years. On December 10, 2012 we had to say goodbye to her, she lived here best life.
After the purchase of Asha, more British cats followed and a whole lifespan. Finally, in 2008, we registered our Cattery with the N.V.V.K. The N.V.V.K. is the oldest cat association, founded on November 17, 1962 and has set itself the goal: "to promote the welfare of the cat and the pursuit of a better understanding of the cat; forming a bond of friendship between fanciers; promoting the responsible breeding of cats."
Kim was asked in 2019 to become a member of the disciplinary committee of the N.V.v.K.
Our cattery was given the name Ailuro's, which comes from the word ailarophilia with meaning great love for cats. In 2009 we had our first litter of British Shorthair and Longhair kittens. Since 2017 we are a member of the Neocat Britten Breed Club.
In addition to our work as branch manager at Van Haren (Linda) and in the legal profession as a lawyer (Kim), we are hobby breeders of the British Shorthair and Longhair and occasionally have a litter.

When breeding, you can come up with great plans and map them out, but first and foremost our cats are just cats and are not forced to do anything. Mother Nature is in control and so busier periods with kittens alternate with periods without kittens. When kittens are born in our Cattery, we adjust our social life and this is put on the back burner.
Of course, our family life with kids and cats, household and work continues. As a result, we are limited in our time and hope for your understanding. Our hobby costs us a lot of physical effort, time and financial resources, but just like with children..... You get so much in return.
We live in Lelystad (Province of Flevoland, in the middle of the Netherlands) and have the space to keep our cats, their health and well-being is paramount. Our cats are also a kind of children for us and are not rehomed if they no longer have or conceive a litter. They can also spend their old age with us. This has ensured that we now have quite a number of cats. However, the cats are spread over two houses and, in addition to their indoor enclosure, have the availability of a large outdoor run (our cats do not come outside loose!).
When Kim went to college, she was in doubt, whether she would choose veterinary medicine or a law degree. She chose to study law because Kim has a great fear of dogs that were impossible to get over. Kim has been a lawyer for almost 19 years now, but still has a great interest in cats and not just breeding. It is a pity that there is no separate education to become a cat doctor.
Now that we regularly received questions from people about breeds, the care of cats, problems with cats, keeping a cat/multiple cats, Kim founded Ailuro's Cat Institute in 2013, now renamed Ailuros. Kim has studied the cat on several fronts and regularly follows courses to expand her cat knowledge, so that we can assist you with advice and assistance. In 2023, Kim graduated from Tinley Academy as a cat behaviorist.
Our Cattery is in possession of the diploma required by the Government Professional Competence Decree Keeper of Animals - Dogs and Cats.
